OSA Local Section: Optical Society of San Diego Update
Written by Brian Catanzaro

After a long summer hiatus, the Optical Society of San Diego (OSSD) season has started. Many thanks to Dave Schaafsma for arranging this month's speaker. I would like your help arranging speakers and topics as well. Our season was light last year because I have been personally arranging most of the talks. I need more help like Dave's. Dave called the speaker, requested a bio, arranged for the location, and set the date. It usually takes less than 2 hours to arrange a meeting. I would really appreciate your help.

Please take a couple minutes and let me know how to attract more people to our meetings. I've received some feedback to make the talks end a little earlier to support family life. I'll make sure the talks start on time to encourage them to end a little earlier. Perhaps we'll even start the talks while we're eating.

With regards to attendance, the most popular reason I've heard for people attending talks is based upon the topic. Therefore, I need your ideas for talks. UCI's Beckman Laser Institute is hosting the OSSC (and OSSD?) later this year. We have faculty at UCSD, SIO, and SDUSD that work in the optics area. We have major companies we have not revisited in a while (e.g. Cymer, Melles Griot). Please take a few seconds and let me know who you'd like to hear from.
