News From Student ChaptersShanghai Jiao Tong University Student Chapter UpdateOn November 4, 2007, four members of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Student Chapter visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology Student Chapter in Wuhan during their attendance of the Asia Pacific Optical Communication (APOC) conference. The local Student Chapter warmly hosted the Shanghai Student Chapter. At the meeting they exchanged the experience of promoting the chapter activities and built friendship between the two chapters. The Wuhan Chapter also showed the Shanghai Chapter their laboratories of Optoelectronics. At the end of the meeting, the two Student Chapter members took photos together and the Shanghai Chapter invited the Wuhan Chapter to visit Shanghai in the future. Back from the trip to Wuhan, four students shared their experiences with other members at the chapter meeting, and the chapter planned to interact and build more relations with other OSA Student Chapters across the world.
Chapter visits the Alcatel-Lucent Optics DivisionOn December 14th, 2007, all members of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Student Chapter of the OSA visited the Alcatel-Lucent Optics Division in Caohejing district, Shanghai, China. Dr. Yuandong Qin, manager of the Wave Division Department, gave the student members a brief introduction to the company and their optical transmission products, which attracted the interest of all students. Other staff in the company also showed the chapter members their state-of-the-art facilities. This activity built a relationship between the chapter and the world-class company in the optics field. It became a good start to promote the activities of the chapter. The members said that this visit was an interesting and memorable experience, which broadened their views and was helpful for their career development.
