Student Chapter Update
2007 was our first year as an OSA Chapter and step by step we have overcome many difficulties to consolidate our work and to take an important place in our university and society.
Our beginning took place after the 10th National Meeting in Optics (X ENO) in Cali-Colombia when we were advised by other regional OSA chapters to group us as a new chapter. At the beginnings we were very skeptical about this decision, but soon we found at OSA a wide spectrum of possibilities inside the exciting field of optics and photonics which opened our minds to develop our academic and social objectives. |

Firstly, we organized five committees: Projects in charge of community activities with a high social impact, Academicdevoted to increase the academic skills of the chapter members, Divulgation responsible for disseminating information about our chapter, Enterprise to facilitate the Industry- University communication - almost absent in our society - and Relationships in charge of increasing our academic and public relationships. |

Maybe the first difficulty we faced to implement our ideas was the lack of experience. However, we began to discover the power of leadership and now we have successfully developed many activities in every committee:
Our main activity in CEO-Projects has beentovisit local primary, secondary and high schools to propose basic optics experimental demonstrations to a complete range of students from the ages of six to seventeen years old in order to conduct demos across the discovery of the optics world.
CEO-Academichas directed several videoconferences, webinars, local courses and has planned lectures of guest speakers. We can remark here the visit of Professors Yobani Mejia and Ricardo Amezquita from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia Sede Bogotá and the visit of Professor Jean Pierre Galaup who is a researcher from Aimé Cotton laboratory. CEO-Divulgation
Developed the group website (www.unalmed.edu.co/~ceomedellin/index_eng.html), publicity (activity flyers, chapter logo ...) and has coordinated activities like the High School Day, divulgation fairs, integration meeting and official Chapter presentations.
CEO-Enterprise developed a summary of services that can be offered by the labs where we work, a chapter business card and contacted some enterprise which have shown interest in the research activities we perform.
Finally, CEO-Relationships has grown by means of the numerous travels that the chapter members have done around the world in which we have taken advantage by visiting several optics and photonics labs and creating collaborative networks with other chapters around the world.

The successful of the mentioned activities has motivated us even more for going on in taking advantage of the OSA benefits and currently we have already developed a complete activities schedule where one of the most important this year is the visit of Professor Bishnu Pal from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi which has been planned to take place in May the 28th. |
