OSA/SPIE Joint Best Paper Contest for the
National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP)/ National Society of Hispanic Physicists (NSHP) Annual Meeting 2008
Peter Delfyett, University of Central Florida, CREOL and Anthony Johnson, University of
Maryland, CASPR served as judges for the Best Poster Presentation at the 2008 NSBP/NSHP Annual Meeting, February 20-24 in Washington, DC.
Two undergraduates and two graduate level posters were awarded cash prizes and student membership for their outstanding and innovative poster presentations.
Undergraduate Posters
- First Prize (awarded: $400 + student membership) – Martin Arienmughare, Lincoln University, “Combined, Confocal Excitation Emission Spectroscopy of Neodymium doped Gallium Nitride.”
- Second Prize (awarded: $200 + student membership) – Dennis Gardner Jr., University of Colorado at Boulder, “Orientationally Ordered Soft Matter for Photonic Applications.”
Graduate Posters
- First Prize (awarded: $400 + student membership) – Dawit Jowhar, Fisk University, “Effect of Background Gas Pressure on the Optical and Electrical Properties of Pulsed Electron-Beam Deposited CdTe.”
- Second Prize (awarded: $200 + student membership) – Rasheen Connell, Howard University, “A Numerical Model Characterizing the Experimental Performance of the Howard University Raman Lidar System.”
