OSA Student Chapter Communities
In an ongoing effort to provide added benefit to student chapters and student members, I would like to remind you that OSA offers two online communities to student members and student chapter officers.
The OSA Student Chapter Yahoo! Group Web site is open to OSA student members and features weekly messages about upcoming deadlines, events, and items of interest. There are polls, pictures, and files that are stored on the site and it serves as a way to stay connected to what’s happening at OSA headquarters. Visit the site to join and a request will be sent to OSA. Once approved, you will receive notification that you are a member and you will be able to see the site’s content!
OSA Student Chapters are also able to access the OSA Chapter Outreach Library upon request. The Library is a centralized location for OSA student chapters to upload, share, and discuss educational outreach materials. Each chapter is able to request a username and password to access the site. You may request access by emailing KiKi L’Italien, Chapter and Student Services Manager, at chaptersandsections@osa.org.
Other OSA groups have their own group web communities, including:
The Optical Society of San Diego – An OSA Local Section that holds regular meetings to promote learning and business in the fields of optical sciences and optical engineering. The group meets in the greater San Diego area once a month from September through June. Meetings are during the week, after work, with light dinner served.
Capitulo Estudiantes OSA en la PUCP – A group of students and postgraduates interested and dedicated to the study of the optics, lasers, photonics and its applications at the Pontifical Catolica University of Peru. [Spanish]
IONS-Project – The IONS (International OSA Network of Students) is a very ambitious project. Its goal is to strengthen both professional and personal ties among OSA Student Chapters. It is aimed at establishing ties between young researchers and institutes. Access to the site is by invitation only.
