News From OSASan Diego Local Section UpdateMany thanks to the San Diego SID group for a stimulating talk. I saw a number of OSSD members in attendance. The room was a private room with continental food served for dinner. It seats about 20 people. Please remind your colleagues that there is no annual dues for the OSSD and you can sign up merely by sending a blank e-mail to: opticalsocietyofsandiego-subscribe@yahoogroups.com Brian MEETING NOTICE-OPTICAL SOCIETY OF SAN DIEGOHIGHLY RELIABLE DIODE ENSEMBLES FOR DIRECT DIODE APPLICATIONS AND PUMPING SOLIDSTATE LASERS by Andrew Leuzinger Abstract This talk will focus on an alternative to the traditional bar diode approach for pumping solid state lasers: single emitter and ensemble sources. JDSU has made significant progress in producing highly reliable sources capable of very long MTBF's. The capabilities and lifetime characteristics of these new single emitter and ensemble sources will be discussed. Andrew Leuzinger is Product Line Manager for Fiber Lasers and Diode Systems within JDS Uniphase's Commercial Laser Division. Prior to JDS Uniphase, Mr. Leuzinger held product management positions at Agilent, Mitsubishi Electronics, and SpectraSwitch. He also spent 10 years at Lightwave Electronics in a variety of positions. Mr. Leuzinger obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his M.S. in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Stanford University, and his MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
