This year, the main activity our chapter has been organizing, is the "1st Latin American Meeting of OSA Student Chapters" which will take place as a satellite activity within the "X National Meeting on Optics" (X ENO) and "I Andean and Caribbean Conference on Optics and Applications" (I CANCOA), from 13 to 17 November 2006 at our University in Cali, Colombia. This way, we are joining the most important activity on Optics in our country.

The main goal of our activity, is not only to allow the participation of some students of our country and the Andean and Caribbean regions in this optical meeting, contributing to improve their optical knowledge, but we also want to encourage students, who will be present in this event, to become OSA members and to create some new Student Chapters at their Universities.

Our Chapter has established cooperation with the Colombian Optical Network, to facilitate the attendance of all students who have an approved presentation at this event and also we have designate some budget to offer some attendance grants for foreign students. To these activities, the OSA student chapter at the Universidad de Antioquia has been cordially invited. Besides, we have confirmed the participation of the leaders from three important OSA Student Chapters, who are going to share with us their experiences, and will bring us new ideas for future Chapter activities. They are Carlos Lopez-Mariscal from the Tecnologico de Monterrey Student Chapter (Mexico), Lazaro Padilha a Brazilian student, from CREOL Student Chapter (USA); and Viktor Lysiuk from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Student Chapter (Ukraine).
