Tecnologico de Monterrey OSA Student Chapter
Organizes Optics for Children

Written by Carlos López-Mariscal

The Tecnologico de Monterrey OSA Student Chapter organized the first 'LCD mood patch workshop for children'.

Twenty-five 4th graders from the Instituto, a local elementary school, gladly attended the workshop and completed the construction of a mood patch with liquid crystals provided by Prof. Steve Jacobs and their educational outreach team.

Chapter members Moises Jezzini, Raul Hernandez and Sergio Camacho organized the event by putting together a short presentation describing the science of Liquid Crystals. Children enjoyed learning about the principles that make liquid crystals an ideal material to sense the "mood" and experienced hands-on the construction of their own patches. This workshop is the first of a series of events aimed at promoting Optics and Photonics awareness in our community.

The Tecnologico de Monterrey OSA Student Chapter is located in Monterrey , N.L. Mexico.
